Not only has his 1982 album Thriller made RIAA history by becoming the first and only album so far to pass the triple diamond certified mark with more than 33 million units sold, but he has generated more than a million track downloads each year for the last three years in a row.Now, the late GRAMMY winner’s indelible influence on the music industry is about the get stronger with the announcement of an extended partnership between the Michael Jackson estate and Sony Music, building on a nearly 40-year relationship that began in 1979. It also adds to a 2010 deal the estate signed with the label that awarded the estate $250 million in advances and other payments for 10 new recordings, four of which have already been released —Michael, Immortal, Escape, and Scream.Though details of the deal remain undisclosed, according to Billboard, the agreement will also allow for releasing additional projects, which likely include the remaining six albums from the original 10-album deal.
